XBRL Australia News

31 January 2006

All of us at XBRL Australia hope the Christmas/New Year holiday season was a well deserved break for you. Over this time we finalised our funding for the Taxonomy Extension project. Our dialogue with our New Zealand counterparts is progressing steadily and we expect some announcements in the near future.

We were made aware very recently of the Regulation Taskforce, which is reporting on ways to reduce the regulatory burden on Australian business. Our submission was too late to be considered in the final report to Government, but hopefully the points we made can be used in any follow up activity as a result of that report. We will be monitoring the progress of that report and making further comment as appropriate.

Australia was actively involved in the writing of a paper presented to the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) to work through the issues related to audit and assurance of XBRL formatted reports. That paper has been considered and working groups established to answer the questions the IAASB raised in relation to it. For more detail, see Consortium Activities - XBRL in Assurance.
