Working groups

XBRL Australia comprises 4 Working Groups, each led by 2 co-chairs. The working groups report to a Steering Committee comprised of the 8 co-chairs plus 3 directors - 1 appointed by the members of XBRL Australia Limited, 1 by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the other by CPA Australia.

STRATEGY
Co-Chairs:

The aim of the Strategy Working Group is to set the strategic direction of XBRL Australia.

The current activities of the Strategy Working Group include:

  • Maintain XBRL Australia as a recognised jurisdiction (need to meet XBRL.org requirements)
  • Progress the XBRL Australia adoption strategy, including governance issues.
  • Monitor and manage funding, including requirements for funds obtained from NOIE - National Office for the Information Economy.
  • Monitor progress of the other Working Groups (ie apply an appropriate level of project governance to keep everybody on track)

DOMAIN

The domain group is responsible for creating the taxonomies of the business reporting elements that will be exchanged using XBRL.

The short term goal (within 3 months) of the Domain Working Group is to obtain international approval for the recently completed Australian extension taxonomy.

EDUCATION

The Education Working Group is responsible for identifying, sourcing, and developing educational materials for use with the prioritised sectors of XBRL.org. Identifying conferences and speakers for XBRL sessions is also a priority. The efforts here are closely coordinated with the Liaison Working Group.

Current deliverables include:

  • Educational Materials for the members of the financial information supply chain.
  • Communication materials for preparers to facilitate adoption.
  • Schedule for Conferences for XBRL resourcing.
  • Educational Symposiums (two scheduled during phase II)
  • Keeping membership apprised of XML technologies and the latest developments in XML
  • Educate members on emerging technical tools and issues

LIAISON

The task of the Liaison Working Group is to conduct focused and prioritized outreach to potential member organisations and to liaise with organizations that are relevant to the development, implementation and interoperability of XBRL.org

The Liaison Working Group is focused on the following:

  • How XBRL fits in with other Internet standards, internationally, across multiple industries, and along the entire business reporting supply chain
  • Keeping the XBRL membership informed about other XML initiatives and consortia
  • Focused and prioritised communications with organisations interested in joining XBRL Australia and formal relationships with non-participating organisations
  • Developing an adoption strategy, including identifying stakeholders, possible deliverables and applications for XBRL
